New Cell Phone Restrictions Start Today

The rule restricting hand-held cell phone use issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in November becomes effective today. The rule was isssued to improve safety by reducing the frequency of distracted driving-related crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMV's). Motor carriers are prohibited from requiring or allowing drivers of CMV's to use mobile, hand-held telephones while operating CMVs. A Teamsters Union Q & A on the new rule can be found here.
