OBLIGATIONS
You are expected to follow the rules set down
in the Local Union Constitution and By-Laws, and the International
Constitution and By-Laws. The Constitution and By-Laws will be given to you
if you request them.
YOUR RIGHTS
The most important right you have is the
right to belong to a Union. This right is provided by law so that you can be
on a more equal standing with management. Through the Union, you bargain
collectively for wages, hours and conditions of work. You have other rights
by law that your Union officers can enforce for you through the collective
bargaining agreement (the Contract). You have the right to Union
Representation if you think you are going to be disciplined. Your supervisor
knows this and may not refuse your request for representation without
jeopardizing his ability to carry out discipline.
BENEFITS
Your Union Health &
Welfare plan is one of your most important benefits. It consists of three
parts, Medical, which includes Doctor, Hospital and Drug benefits, Dental,
and Vision. Once
the Company makes 3 full months of contributions your coverage begins.
Meaning, when the company has paid three full months of the premium the
coverage begins.
WAIVER OF PREMIUM
After you are eligible for coverage, you may
not have to pay a premium to continue your coverage if you are ill or
injured. Read the Beverage and Brewery Health and Welfare benefit booklet
to determine how to use the "Waiver of Premium," or call the office if you
are off due to illness or injury. Under some circumstances you may also be
eligible for disability benefits. Waiver of premium is available for the
life insurance mentioned below, if you meet the criteria. Call the office if
you are unable to work due to illness or injury.
LIFE INSURANCE
When you become a dues paying member, you
will be covered for $5000.00 of life insurance, with double indemnity in
case of accidental death. Your main responsibility for these plans will be
to remain a member in good standing, be working at least the minimum
required of the plans, and to keep your beneficiary card current.
The last beneficiary we have on file will be the recipient of your policies.
lf you have any questions about the Union, we
encourage you to attend the meetings and to call the office.
Once again, WELCOME!
